The lists for The Best Lawyers In America (2014) publication was aggregated by a consensus of opinion from leading lawyers all across the nation. In total more than 4.9 million detailed evaluations were conducted. Nominations were open to all lawyers, then the ballots were distributed according to geographic area to evaluating attorneys in each practice area. Best Lawyers asked each of its evaluating attorneys to determine how likely, on a scale of 1-5, he or she would be to refer a client to each of the nominees. A space was also included for additional relevant comments. Best Lawyers’ editorial staff reviewed the votes and comments to determine the winners, and then further verified with each state bar association that the selected attorney was in good standing.
